With a lifetime background in technology and computers, Mark Shaffer serves as the Director of Systems Architecture for Fusework Studios. Formerly Mark worked as the Information Systems (IS) Director for Rutter Communications. This Muncie native attended Tennessee Tech University, and studied Electrical Engineering, CAD, Fortran, Secondary Education, and Biology.
Shaffer accepted a line position at Federal-Mogul, became the IT assistant and initiated use of software to manage QS-9000 compliance. Shaffer was promoted to MIS Coordinator, moved to TX, and oversaw the site installation/training for MRP software. Shaffer continued learning, completing over 100 hours of AIX, PC hardware, and printer maintenance courses offered by IBM, Novell, and other providers while working for Federal-Mogul. To no surprise, he was given more responsibility to the IT team with administrative duties for AS/400 and AIX midrange systems, along with a Novell file server, Domino Server, NT server, and PC clients. Shaffer was placed in charge of successful MRO software implementation/ training for three Federal-Mogul sites in three different states, and he remained with the company for nine years.
After returning to Muncie with his wife and children so that they could be close to extended family, Shaffer accepted the position of IS Director with Rutter in 1999. After becoming a Linux enthusiast in 2000, he successfully migrated the company to Linux-based email, web hosting, and collaboration, and then provided web/ftp/email hosting to the company's clients. He continued helping to reduce operations costs through use of technology. Shaffer's integrity, performance, work ethic, along with many other traits of good character have made him a two-time recipient for one of Rutter's highest annual Rutter Awards - the CEO Award.
Outside of the office, Shaffer enjoys church, music, science fiction, and outdoor activities with his wife and four children. He serves on the MACC Advisory Committee and helps a friend provide IT support to the Townsend Community Center in Richmond.
